Not every problem tree needs removing. A canopy that's grown over the roof can often be reduced properly and left standing. Removal becomes the honest answer when the structure has failed — a split union, a hollowed butt, significant root damage from a driveway or pool excavation, or a lean that's changed since the last big blow.
